5PSP owner doing research  Dec 17, 2009
I have been staring at a PS3 purchse now for a while. I've gone through all the progressions of PS1-PS2, PSP, and computers. I have looked at this product now for almost three years. Price always seemed a little too high. Now, I believe the PS3 has made this purchase moot. The PS3 is equipped with location free capability and remote play for my PSP, and all for just a little more than this LFBS!! I will be able to play and access A/V content from anywhere I can find an access point now. Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't the PS3 make this Location Free device obsolete?

5Great as advertised  Dec 05, 2009
It came in great condition and never experienced buyer's remorse. Although setting it up at first was a little tricky, the sony support staff was very helpful and I am using it on a daily basis.

5I Love This Thing!  Aug 07, 2009
Initially I was going to buy a Slingbox but then I heard about the LF-V30. What sold me on it was that it has built-in wireless...I don't have to have it physically connected to my router. Perfect!

I actually bought this item on Ebay for $100 brand new. I got up this morning, looked at the instructions and had it setup within 1/2 hour. I can now watch my Directv satellite on my laptop and so far everything works great. I absolutely love the fact that I didn't have to connect it to my home computer (I have it connected to a satellite receiver in my bedroom....my home computer and router are in an office on the other side of the house). The laptop I'm using to stream to has Vista and there were no issues with the setup.

The remote control works fine, I didn't have to call customer support at all during the setup. It was all very easy and painless. All the info I needed (domain name, port # & password) for the on-screen setup was supplied on the back of the quick quide. Just leave all the default settings alone during the on-screen setup and you shouldn't have any problems.

I should have done this a long time ago.

3Streaming works--remote control does not  Jun 13, 2009
I use this device to stream tv to my laptop and psp. I was able to set it up without too much trouble. It's great to be able to stream to my psp and take it anywhere in the house--like in the bathroom while I get ready in the morning. That said, I have never been able to get the remote to work with my Dish Network. I have spent considerable time trying to figure this out. Ultimately, I have decided it will be less time consuming to go back upstairs to change the channel on the satellite box than troubeshooting the system.

When programming a remote, it asks you to point your device remote at the infrared receiver on the LF-V30. NO response from the Dish remote. Even bigger joke, NO response from the PS3 remote, and a message that says it doesn't recognize the SONY Bravia TV remote!!! What a joke. This is a Sony product, right?!

I read additional reviews and found I am not the only one struggling with the remote issue. Happy to hear some people got it to work for them. Again, I am just done trying.

In the end, the streaming works nicely, I enjoy it, but the inability to get the remote control feature to work is a source of continual annoyance.

1Buy a Slingbox  May 04, 2009
Unfortunately the SONY locationfree Base Station will only work if there is no other wifi network nearby. I live in a townhouse and many of my neighbors have local wireless networks. Although my wireless network has 5 bars and the highest number of bars a nearby neighbor's network has is three, I cannot get the base station to connect. This was confirmed by a SONY Locationfree techie this morning. He admitted that the device is basically useless where I live.
